Iowa SSN required for Marriage?

What are the requirements for getting a Marriage License in Iowa? One website (not very credible) says we need to have a SSN in order to get a Marriage License in Iowa, well, it takes 4-6 weeks at minimum to get a SSN in Iowa once I move. We need to be married within 90 days. I also have a family member coming down two weeks after I move to be a witness for the marriage.

So, my question: has anyone gotten married in Iowa on a K-1? Did you require a social security number?

Please help!!

You can get an SSN as soon as you move and it generally only takes 1-2 weeks. However, requirements for marriage certificates can vary by county. Check your county website. Generally speaking you just need your passport.

No US state requires you to have an SSN in order to obtain a marriage licence.

I got married in the US without a SSN. I don't think you need a SSN to get married. You shoul call to your local County Clerk's Office to find out what is really needed. Usually, all you need is proper identification (e.i. passport).

Wish you the best,
