From what date does USCIS start counting? Received notice or approval notice?

Hello all

My question is simple, but there seem to be different opinions out there.

From what date does USCIS start counting? From the date the case was received (October 5th in my case) or the date my case was approved (October 18th)?

I want to know to know for sure when I can expect my EAD. I am so anxious and hope everyday that I will get the message that my EAD is approved. But it is like they say, a watched pot takes longer to boil :)

Thank you for your replies.

I have the same doubt and wondering what date they use to start counting Day 1. My take is that it should be the date the application (mailing) was actually received and not the "notice date".
