and it doesnt really make any sense for a one entry visa to have a round trip ticket in the first place

It does if you're flying from Europe. Round-trip tickets from Europe to the USA are almost always cheaper than one-ways. In other areas it's the other way round.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

Now a US citizen!

This ^^

Many people don't seem to understand that for Europeans, the prices are outrageous when it comes to one-way tickets. I rather book a round-way ticket and pay $1300 and cancel the flight back (like I did in July on my K1) than to pay $2400 for a one-way.

I booked a return ticket, it was a lot cheaper, I didn't bother cancelling the return leg...................to be honest I forgot all about it! Had no problems

its depend on the price because sometime the return is cheaper and besides airline can not put you on a manifest without boarding and final check in...if you didnt use your return ticket it will be automatically canceled....

That's how it's supposed to work, and that's what happens almost all of the time. Most people have no problem.

However, there have been threads from people who didn't use the return, got on the manifesto anyway, and had to clarify things with USCIS after the fact. Mistakes happen. For that reason, and frankly until citizenship when it no longer matters, it's a good idea to cancel any unused international tickets. You *probably* won't have any problems, but it's also an easy risk to avoid.

Not really.
Printing out my I-94 for my AOS package I've learnt that I "left" the country. We forgot to cancel the return part of my ticket, but Delta didn't cancel this "automatically" either.
We called them, asking for some proof that I've never checked-in on that flight. We were told that they "see" i didn't show up, but the manifest was provided 72-24 hours BEFORE the flight. That's why the departure was on my I-94 despite the fact I didn't leave the country that day. We had to go to the nearest POE that has a Deferred Inspection Office to get my I-94 corrected.
So, OP, if a round trip is cheaper - go for it. Just make sure you cancelled the return part.
Good luck!! :)
