B1/B2 from VWP country

Hello

I just wanted to give my experience of getting the B1/b2 visa from a visa waiver country. (I'm an Australian citizen)

Long story short, my husband is a dual citizen of America and Australia, he was born in Australia and has never lived or worked in the US. We decided to apply for an immigrant visa for myself (where he was the sponsor)to have the option to work in the USA if possible. However in the end we had to withdraw our application as we did not have enough financial assets to show (something I believe we were not informed about in our interview). I actually wish I had known about these forums as it is a wealth of knowledge!

Anyway in the end because I had withdrawn from this visa, it now makes me ineligible to travel using the vwp. So I had to apply for the b1/b2, and was lucky enough to score an earlier interview (because someone must have cancelled). Went in for it today, had all my documents ready, and basically when he asked me what I wantwas d to do I said holiday/honeymoon, then queried about why I was refused a visa before. I made it clear we withdrew our application. And he asked if my husband worked and lived there and I told him no he lives and works here and has all his life. He asked me if I was going to work there and I said not with this visa. I just wanted to go on my honeymoon! There was other stuff too I don't quiet remember, but he typed for awhile then said I was approved and to expect my visa in 1 week!!!

I was expecting him to ask how much money etc I had but he didn't. He did ask what job I had and that was it. Nothing about ties to Australia. And I've traveled to the US 3 times previously for holidays also so that may have helped! But I wanted to share a positive review and hope this helps someone else!

Good for you. Australians, like Canadians and Western Europeans, don't face as much scrutiny when applying for visas as most of the rest of the world does. Their countries are developed, economies are good and governments are stable. Their institutions are trusted and the documents they produce are readily accepted by US embassies and USCIS.

Compare this to someone from, say, Sudan or India.

That accident of birth, eh? Small blessings!
