Because abuse against women isn't interesting in our male dominated hyper violent society where things have to be flashy and cool. Guns are sexy and interesting. Domestic violence and rape is just so so complicated and ewwy... and it's probably the victim's fault anyway or something. We only talk about abuse against women when it's something that makes the public aghast, like women being kidnapped and chained up for years, because it's great subject matter to sensationalize.
