the alt right was named by bb honcho bannon, he's proud of it. 'alt left' as this op ed calls it, is occupy (which was not a liberal movement), ferguson (how is this 'left'?), black friday protests (?), and also leonardo di caprio (LOL).

sounds to me like the right wants to support trump and also distance themselves from maga punks like bannon and david dude and white supremacy in general. public perception just doesn't work that way. alt right is synonymous with bigotry and intolerance because that's what the alt right claimed to be.

America is becoming "Alt-Everything". You are either Alt-Right or Alt-Left. Or at least everyone is perceived to be in one of those camps. The Right-leaning people don't see themselves as being "extreme", but call their Left-leaning opposites as "extreme" or "Alt". Same with left leaning people, they see the right as all "extreme".

While I liked Trump's victory message of "unification" I just don't see it happening anytime soon. He may unify one side, but it's going to take something big that I can't even think of to solve our massive divide. Someone showing up in the middle just isn't successful since then both sides find them untrustworthy.
