Me and my wife are U.S. citizens. My wife filed a petition I-130 for her parents to come to the United States. Since her individual income is lower than required, I became the co-sponsor since our combined income meets the income requirement.

We submitted:

1) Wife's I-864

2) My I-864A

When my in-laws went for their interview, they were told that the income of the sponsor does not meet the minimum income requirement and were given a paper. On this paper they marked, "Your case required additional administrative processing..." Also, they marked "Joint Sponsor: Your petitioner's income is not sufficient to sponsor you. A Joint Sponsor is needed. Please send us an original, signed Affidavit of Support (I-864) from a qualifying JOINT SPONSOR, along with all supporting documents listed above."

- What does this mean?

- Was I supposed to send I-864 and I-864A for me?

- I thought I only had to send in I-864A for myself and I-864 for my wife because I am co-sponsor and wife is sponsor.

Please help!!!

The CO finds that you and your wife do not make enough to support your in-laws, so they are asking you to find another joint sponsor who does make more than the poverty guideline. The new joint sponsor will have to have his/her own i-864 form, in addition to providing all required financial documents.

How much do you and your wife make, if you don't mind me asking? And do you have any children?

Does the joint sponsor need to fill out an I-864 and an I-864A?

If so, I only did I-864A for myself. My wife did I-864.

No, you only fill out the i-864A. What you did was correct, it's just that the CO believes your income doesn't meet the requirements. That is why they are telling you to find another joint sponsor.

Thank you very much for your guidance. I really appreciate it.

So, the joint sponsor would only have to fill I-864A correct?

Then, I will have the following affidavit of supports all together:

1) I-864 from the petitioner/sponsor (my wife)

2) I-864 A (myself)

3) I-864 A (another joint sponsor)

Is this correct?

Unless the other joint sponsor resides with you, he/she would fill out the i-864 form, in addition to providing his/her financial documents. Edited by xmaricrisx

So,

1) Wife filled I-864 for her parents

2) I filed I-864A as a joint sponsor

They said we don't meet income requirement

3) We submitted I-864 for another sponsor

They are asking for that other sponsor's spouse's I-864A.

Why would they ask the other sponsor's spouse's I-864A when the total income of my wife, myself, and our other sponsor is significantly above the minimum requirement? I am so confused.
