I-134 with supporting evidence in London

Hi all,

For the I-134 affidavit of support, will a supporting letter from my sponsors employer saying what they make, their job title and how long they've been employed be enough as evidence in London? This is for a K1 interview

"Enough"? How about the sponsor's tax returns? How about a set of bank statements?

There is no such thing as "enough" when you go to your interview. It's enough when the CO thinks it's enough.

Put a different way, when we went to my wife's naturalization interview, they had two folders, both of them six inches tall (so 12 inches of paperwork) with everything we'd ever sent to CIS over the years. That was enough for the CO. (My pile was only a few inches, but I had the originals while they had multiple copies.)

If you're the CO, and someone comes in and gives you a letter from their sponsor's employer as proof of income and support as their only evidence, would you accept it?

Regards,

Bill

Yes, that will be enough. London is extremely laid back in that regard.

Yeah I heard that too - thats why I'm asking.

I'm also aware London accepts self sponsor for I-134 if you can prove ongoing income after you enter the United States (when you've got work authorisation etc.) - is that something you know anything about?

Not really, sorry. Self-sponsorship seems to be much more complicated and subjective so I don't think there are any hard and fast rules. There are quite a few threads on VisaJourney already about it though so I'd suggest searching for them. I think a lot of it comes down to the nature of the beneficiary's income/assets.

Cool - well my fiance has a co sponsor for the I-134 anyhow, so just gonna get a letter of employment off him - maybe some other pieces of evidence - and hopefully they'll accept that

You can email the embassy for more info but in my case they asked for a lot in the packet 3 from the petitioner (ME) however the requests as I would come to find out were broad and not set in stone. I emailed the embassy for clarification and they told me I just needed - 2015 tax returns, most recent W2 and Letter of Employment from my boss.

Thanks for this - I'll bring more than is required but the consensus appears to be in London that a letter from the employer is enough

London is not Indonesia, they don't follow the same procedures.

What I was referring too is that the Packet 3 is broad and is intended to cover all people however some or many of the requests are referring to a specific scenario and can be omitted if you inquire. For example Bank Statements and pay stubs. Usually and this is not isolated to one embassy, Bank statements can be omitted if you are a not relying on assets to reach the income requirement.

Okay, that's fair enough. This thread is over a week old though and the question has already been answered so I don't think telling the OP what is needed at consulates in other countries is helpful, it just muddies the issue.
