USC living abroad, petition sent to NSC - Q&A thread

Should I go ahead and sign them up for school in the town where my parents live, even though we don't know when we might be coming? Any advice on when to start looking for a job in the US?

This process is pretty daunting. It's one of the main reasons I've lived here so long.

As far as I have researched, you need to proove the petitioner's intent to reestablish domicile or give evidence of maintaining domicile. Since your children are considered beneficiaries (unless you have prior reported their births overseas and got them an American citizenship/passport) you dont need to proove their intent to establish, since thats what the whole point of filing is for. What you could do is use evidence like emails to schools asking questions etc. As your proof of re-establishing/establishing domicile. Thats what I noticed one lady on this site did. Since its hard to enroll your child in school a year (possibly) before they even start. I also recommend emailing the schools and asking them what their personal procedure would be in your case (what you can do prior to arriving).

See what advice works best for you, and check out some other forum topic on this site; im sure you will find others were in the same situation.

Mine was filed in August of 2016.  So yes, it will be 6 months, there was no auto expedited even though we live(d) abroad when we filed.

Your original comment on this thread said it went from est. December (4 months) to January (5 months) instead of February (6 months) so thats why I was asking.. ? I thought maybe they changed something.. 

We are living abroad as well, but no Auto at Nebraska.. only California ?

You are already about halfway through your whole process thiugh! So your visa isnt that far away!

When we filed, Nebraska wasnt taking so long. Even with NSC, our estimated date was Dec when we started but it got pushed to January and then Feb.
