How long is the Visa good for once issued at the embassy?

Hello

Our I129F was approved today and we are of course excited about this. Moving forward we are not concerned about getting approved at the embassy in Jakarta as we have all our ducks in a row and everything is legit.

My question is: My fiancé has an accounting job at a technology company in Jakarta and her position is very important. She had another friend marry a bule from the USA and she claims that her visa that she was given at the embassy required her to leave Jakarta within 3 months. I thought it was 6 months to leave and then once you arrive you are given an I-94 which starts the 90-day marriage clock.

On the web some people claim its 3 months to leave your country and 3 months to get married whereas I’ve read its 6 to leave and 3 to get married?

If we are to get her visa approved in say the next 60 days, it would be possible but difficult for her to leave within a 90-day period, due to work obligations.

Can anyone give me the actual and factual answer on this?

Thanks

The visa validity is tied up with the medical validity.

The medical is valid within 6 months so the visa is good until that date.

Ex: I did my medical Sept 2013, interview and visa issued on Dec 2013, visa is valid until Mar 2014.

Your 90 day period to get married starts on the day she arrives in US soil.

Good luck.

As apple21 said, it is 6 months from your medical exam, which is usually soon before the interview (at least in Indonesia). In my now-wife's case, her exam was a month before her visa interview, so she had "only" 5 months validity on her visa when it was issued. I think the embassy was unusually busy then though, because from what I've read on VJ, most Indonesian applicants have their interview scheduled within a couple weeks of the embassy receiving their petition.

Another way to "delay" the process is to schedule your medical exam and interview later.

would they allow me to do that? but on second thought.... our petition is valid until Nov 18 anyway, so either way I guess we have to leave soon...

The petition validity has nothing to do with the visa validity.

If you have another medical done and postpone your interview, you can leave later than February

They should allow you to re-do the medical; I have seen in happen where the interview had to be delayed due to family emergency, and then the beneficiary re-did the medical before the actual interview so as to have more time. But contact your embassy and ask, rather than reply on it, as each embassy handles such things slightly differently.
