HELP! living in fiance's country and applying (split and merge)

I have a question. I'm just starting my K1 Visa petition and this whole process with my fiance. However, I am living with him in Colombia. I am a US citizen and I'm currently working and living here in Colombia. For the mailing address, would it be best to put my address here in Colombia? Or can I put my address in the US?

I feel like this is an obvious DUH question but I want to be absolutely sure I'm putting the right address. I just fear that something could get lost in the mail but I'm not nervous you know..

As far as i know, you have to put an address where ever you are currently living since they are going to send you a NOA1 which is notice of action 1 stating that they receive your packet and they will starting to review your case. And whenver you get back to US, you need to inform them immediately, you can request the address change online or call them. Your address on file needs to be changed immediately so that the upcoming notice will be sent to your new address.

Help! :help:I have a major concern about applying for the K1 visa. I am living and working in Colombia, the country of my fiance, and we want to apply for the K1 visa.

Will I be able to apply for the visa while living in Colombia? Can I put my Colombian address for the mailing address? I'm worried that mail might get lost but has anyone ever applied for the visa while living in their partner's country?

Have you considered marrying and filing dcf since you're a resident there already?? It usually takes a few months from start to finish. I did my husband application in August and our interview date is next month

Because I want him to come to the US sooner without having to apply again for another visa.

I'm looking for some input on someone who perhaps lived abroad and applied for the K1 abroad. I'm not sure how common that is.

You won't have to apply for another visa if you do the dcf. For me I married in June, filed his petition in August and we have a interview date for October. Once approved he will get his cr1 visa which is good for 3 years. I don't recall seeing anybody file for k1 while aboard but I wanted to share my experience while living aboard and going through the visa process

Ok! Yes! Thank you! That's really all I wanted to know if I could apply while I am living in Colombia. It's not like my intentions are to reside in Colombia forever. I am here on a work visa and it will expire in January, I could extend it of course and while I am here we can to do the K1 and leave together if everything works out.

I will take your advice about looking for previous posts.. there's just SO MANY and I got overwhelmed.

Hello! I am in your same situation. I was living close to my fiance in his home country. I got all the information ready, but the K-1 129F packet does need to be mailed from the States. Fortunately, my parents came down in June to visit, and they took the packet back with them to mail. From that point, I have been in Costa Rica/ Nicaragua every step of the way, and it has not caused any problems. However, it helps that I use my parents' mailed address in the US. Whenever they get mail from USCIS, they scan it into the computer and email it to me. I highly recommend you have an address in the US of someone you trust who can help you along.

It's definitely better when you can be with them every step of the way. When we got our NOA2, I walked to his work and told him during his coffee break. Seeing that smile on his face was so special!

Oh wow.. ok thanks! I won't have any visitors coming any time soon....but maybe I can mail it to my sister and she can send it for me. And that's awesome! I want to be there for him too.

CR-1 visa is only good for 2 years, not 3.
