Administrative processing gone wild...(merged)

My dear friends

I wished I was never on this forum, but I am because of AP(administrative processing)... Well ; my history was quite diabolical! ...so i started a new thread. :)

I had applied for a B1B2 visa in april 2006, i got into AP...and on 21 st december 2006 i received my visa, so i visted the US in 2006 and then again in 2009, the visa was valid till 2011.

On 15 th june 2016 i applied again, but now things are more fishy, as I work for a company that works for ministry of defense pakistan, the VO told me...

VO: i approve u the visa but do you have your CV?

Jan: no its a tourist visa , thats why i did not bring my CV?

VO: ok send it to me ...sorry you will have to go through AP?

Jan : mam this is like last time, i had to wait 8 months ? This time I have booked a package tour with yellow stone park ...i will loose my deposit?

VO: shrugs her shoulders...

My question here is

1. that do they have any records of people who have cleared AP before, or they start a fresh.

2. Iread the AP explained and they send your name to different departments, CIA, FBI, dept. Of commerce! And the dept of polliferation..now if my organization is in their list of polifiriation....will I Get a visa ?

If i am not a theive? Or never have been? How can they put me in a catagory where they think i will do theft? This is just absurd...

Please let me know your opinions.....

PS i have already missed my vaccation...

I don't know if they do AP each time with each new application but, If you work in a specialized field with certain skills in technology or connections to governments, it seems like it'll take longer because it's just one added thing they have to go over.

It's not about if you're a thief or not, they assume that everyone is suspicious/untrustworthy, moreso if you are working for government departments in a foreign country. It's not about being a thief, they just check for security reasons, it's pretty typical, don't take it personally. Just wait and see what happens.

Sorry you missed your vacation. A lot of people don't even get tourists visas, they are just rejected flat out. Be glad you've been lucky in the past! Maybe it'll work out this time too.

I'd advise not to book or plan any vacations in the future unless you have the visa first.

Dear millefluer..

Thanks for the reply, not only it is befitting but informative and compassinate too... I till date, have not written to the US embassy islamabad, because i did not want a "copy nd paste" answer.:)

Well... Just as an anecdote

Here is what US embassy islamabad should put on their page of "administrative processing" times in Pakistan...

This picture speaks volumes...here is a father and son waiting for administrative procssing to complete...the before and after...:)

Sure thing! I think it's really just a waiting game at this point. I've read people wait even months for AP on this forum. The picture is very apt! Pretty much sums it up. :content: Hope you'll at least find out something soon. It's so frustrating to just be left hanging without a straight answer.

Many national security events have occurred since 2011. I am sure they will do an updated background check since it has been 5 years since expiration and 10 years since issued for your last visa. Their main concern here being homeland security, not your vacation plans and deposit. You have to look at it from that perspective, as frustrating as that may be. Comes with the terrority and many experience it. You are not alone. Best of Luck!

Visa rule #1: Never book tickets, or tours for anything until you have the visa in hand. Don't worry Yogi is not going anywhere.

I believe all visa literature states not to book travel until you have it in hand. The embassy is not responsible for your deposit.

Every new visa application ends up in AP; therefore, you will go in AP, but the duration of the AP can differ.

You know better than to put down a deposit for a trip that's contingent on a still-to-be-obtained US visa. Contrary to popular belief, purchasing air tickets\deposits\tuition, etc does not smooth the way for a visa.

My fiance was put in AP and it will be 5 weeks as of tomorrow. He has a mechanical engineering degree and has worked as both a mechanical engineer and process engineer. No matter that he's switching careers and wants to be an interpreter - the fact that he's a Russian scientist routes him through several background checks. The fact that you're from Pakistan and you have a background in science puts you down that same path, and what's more, you are working for the department of defense. You are going to be screened very, very carefully, and it's going to take a long time. Sorry. :-/

I think by the time I reach Yogi's grand children would be adults.

I have traveled allot and know very well when to book my tickets, The thing is I would have never booked, but the Yellowstone park services had a rule that If I have to go on a specific package I had to pay an Ir-refundeble amount 2 months prior otherwise no confirmation was given. No confirmation means I had nothing to show to the VO.

Nevertheless I do not blame the embassy for my deposit but rather their "administrative processing" procedure.

Unfortunately since you are directly connected to the Dept. of Defense, the chances were insanely low for the get go. They AP lowly chemistry teachers from friendly Euro countries like France....someone working for a country with less than perfect relations with the US and in their department of defense is just going to be viewed as an extra risk. I know it's lame but that's just the way the ball bounces in these situations.

There was a case on here recently of a woman being denied a B-2 to visit her dying mother in the US. She had no special reasons for AP (other than being from Pakistan) and she was also denied. Unfortunately for some innocent people in certain countries it's just getting harder and harder to get a visitor visa. :(

Unfortunately for some innocent people in certain countries it's just getting harder and harder to get a visitor visa. :(

Dear millefleur

If they wanted to deny me the visa from the get go they could have >there and then< given me the form saying "you do not show strong ties " section 214 (b) of the immigration act, because they considered me and put me under section 221 (g) AP , I am hopeful that at least there might be light at the end of the tunnel.

I have previously traveled to the US and returned without any incidents.
