My fiance has her interview at the embassy in Manila on Sept. 20. Her passport expires May 20, 2017. We are looking at her coming to the US around the beginning of December. Her home is in Davao. There is a OFW seminar in Davao on Oct. 20. She wants to renew her passport before she leaves her country. She wants to know when to renew her passport before the seminar or after the seminar?

Does anyone have experience or knowledge on renewing the passport?

Thanks...

If she is from davao, she can do a walk in application on a regional dfa office. Dfa has online appointment system for passport renewals and applications on selected offices. Davao is not part of it.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I was wondering the same ?, my fiances will expire in two years, but I think I decided to have it renewed when she gest here and her name changes. There is not an Philippine embassy where I live so we have to go to Chicago I believe to get hers renewed. I want her to have her married name on the passport so all the names are the same for when we are allowed to travel.

I agree with above as well. Why not just wait until she comes here and y'all get married before you even think about renewing her passport? That makes alot more sense than paying to renew it now, and then pay to renew it later with your married name in there.

She has to renew her passport before leaving the country.it is a requirement of the Philippine Bureau of Immigration that all departing citizens, regardless of destination, must have at least 6 month validity on their passport to exit the Philippines. If her passport is expiring in May 2017, and she intends to leave December 2016 - she might have a problem with the PH Immigration.

In the end it's always up to you. :) But I personally would just renew to be safe and avoid any inconveniences.

Good luck!

That is not the case at all. My wife had her passport expire last year in November. she flew into and out of the Philippines in June/July last year. It would be better for his fiance just to do the ROM and the passport at the same time in the San Francisco consulate.

I have heard of the 6 month rule when leaving the Philippines. In that case she will have to renew the passport before she leaves if she leaves after November 20.

My fiance attended the CFO GCP seminar in Davao. The CFO officer told her she must renew her passport because it will have less than 6 months if she leaves after November 20.

Just wait until the Chicago consulate does an outreach in MO. They go to each of their state responsibilities once a year.

k-1 visa recipients are required to attend the General counseling seminar sponsored by the government before leaving the country . The passport is stamped after completion of the 1 day session.
