Hi,

I am sponsoring my spouse's parents to US. I will be sending all the Job Letters/Bank Letters etc.

Does they need to prepare any summary document for their financial Assets/Equity/Fixed Deposit/Saving Accounts/Property/Gold Asset ?

Can anyone please advise on the list of documents to carry for the interview.

You can't sponsor a tourist visa. Your finances have nothing to do with their tourist visa applications.

There is no such thing as sponsoring a tourist visa, irrespective of what you may have read on India frequented websites. No documents to send.

Your parents must qualify for a B2 visa on there own merit and be able to convince the interviewing officer of their ties to home that they will return back to.

It may hurt more than help if you send anything pertaining to you.

They have to qualify on their own, showing strong ties to their home country to prove they'll return there.

You dont send anything.

There is no list of documents for them to take. They can bring whatever they think will show strong ties to their home country.

They probably wont even be looked at, mine werent. More important is the answers and how they answer at the interview, not pieces of paper.

You are making the tourist visa for your parents al about you. They need to show evidence and convince the CO they will return. Unfortunately the application goes before they do so they decision really is already made So what do they have that would convince a CO they would return to their country.

I heard of people doing this, having family write long statements of financial "stability", supply bank documents, and wire money abroad to the intending tourist. Then, when a visa is not issued, the "reason" they invent is that they must not have shown enough money to "sponsor". It looks like this because some people from richer families get tourist visas. What they don't see is that these richer families show strong ties (to their jobs, business, homes, etc.) and sometimes have travelled to other places and always returned home.

But again, a "poorer" family sees a "richer" family getting approved and figures their lack of wealth is the only issue.

My theory... tough for a foreigner from a developing country to prove they can afford a flight and stay in the US. But who says a farmer can't save for 10 years to be able to travel to NYC and have a picture taken in Times Square? So I think at some point in time it was suggested that if there are relatives that could help fund (sponsor) a vacation it would allow good people the opportunity to visit. Now this is purely a guess on my behalf but somewhere down the line things got out of hand to the point where websites are posting templates and guides to writing sponsor letters for visitor visas and it is widely believed it is a necessity to have one.

You see it so a lot on some Philippine websites as well. Also it is also perpetuated on TV as well.

Every day I see people on this site claiming or wanting to "sponsor" someone for a tourist visa and I have absolutely no idea why people think this is possible. The fact of the matter is they must apply and be approved on their own merits and their merits alone.You have NOTHING to do or say about THEIR tourist visa Period. End of story.

I tell my husband this yet he says it happens at his embassy, he says he heard it and talked to people who did it. I can't convince him otherwise. I don't speak his language and he has lots of friends from his country here. Apparently a letter showing an address where the visitor will stay and a statement that food and lodging will be provided is "needed by the embassy". So far none of his relatives have tried to visit. We shall see...
