Good morning/afternoon/evening,

I'm pretty new to this forum and realize this might be a repeat thread, but I'm currently engaged and I'm trying to bring my fiancé to the United States.

To give you all a little bit of backstory, my fiancé and I met online last November online while I was working in Japan at a private English conversation company in Japan. We hit it off pretty quickly (both of us were really surprised on how fast things went actually- just goes to show you the power of true love) and after a couple of visits and a few rather funny crises, we decided to get married. I moved back to the States last month so that I could provide better for my fiancé here than I could in Japan and be closer to my parents (who aren't in the best of health). I've been home state-side for about a month now looking for a new job while my fiancé has remained in the Philippines to keep working until I can bring her here.

The questions I have for you today/tonight ladies and gentleman are:

1) Should I do the K-1 Fiance Visa petition on my own or should I look into getting a lawyer?

2) Do I need to already have a job for the petition and the affidavit of financial support or could I use a co-sponsor? I heard that the US Embassy in Manila where my fiancé would probably have to go for the interview/medical exam don't like people using co-sponsors when applying for a fiancé visa, but I can't find any "official" information on this.

3) What is the exact step-by-step process on how I fill out the forms? I think I saw a link to another sub-forum about it before I posted, but it's always best to be sure.

4) Can I use the money I earned when I was working in Japan on my taxes when I file them on the affidavit of support?

That's all I have for now, it's late and my tired brain can't think of anything else right now to ask, but I'm sure I can always come back if I have another other questions. Thanks in advance for helping me and if any of you have any other suggestions of advice, please feel free to contact me.

Kind regards,

Joel

My fiance and I did process everything by ourselves. It was pretty much easy thanks to VisaJourney and different blogs across the internet. Everything went smooth. See my timeline/signature for more info

For the initial petition I-129f, i dont think it may require proofs of having a job or something.

Affidavit of Support is part of the official documents that should be brought during the interview but for most cases the consul doesnt really look for it.

I had couple of friends who had their interview and the consul didnt look for it. The one who interviewed me didnt ask for it too.

This is a very helpful linked once shared to me by Greenbaum.

I-134 is not sent with the I-129F petition. Financials are dealt with at the K-1 visa interview. Read the I-129F instructions for the best view of the requirements, but there is also a guide here on VJ that outlines everything > http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

Current annual income is what is used, not what you made in the past.

You are lucky though. Manila is so lax on the financial aspects that rarely even ask for the I-134 anymore. You may want to be prepared in case they do anyway.
