Filing B2 and K1 Visa at the same time?

Hey all,

Quick question that I could not seem to find a definitive answer to elsewhere -- I recently just came back from a visit to my Fiance in Mexico. We are looking to see each other again as soon as possible, but her ultimate goal is to have a successful K1 application and come to work/study in the US. However, we are exploring different ways of being able to see each other again, and having her possibly visit my family.

In this way, we were wondering if it was possible to file for a B2 Visa and a K1 at the same time, or if there was a certain point in the B2 application when we could file for the K1, or if we should file for the K1 and then the B2. However, if the B2 will in any way delay the K1 application, or make her less likely to be approved for the K1, we would not want to file.

If anyone can help us out or share their experience, it would be much appreciated!

If anything, the b1/b2 will be affected by the k1, not the other way around. The k1 demonstrated immigration intent, which is the opposite when going for a tourist visa.

Try for B1/B2 first. Be truthful. She should be truthful about having a USC boyfriend.

Agree. More likely they'll see you as a non-return risk for the B visa and won't issue that. It won't affect your I-129f/K1, though.

She could try getting a B visa first, showing lots of intent to return home, family ties, job/school etc., but she's going to have to be honest about visiting a fiancé.

B2 application just involves waiting for an appointment at the embassy, usually a few weeks or less? I don't think it wastes any time to try for it.

It will take you a while to get the K-1 packet ready anyway so it's not like you can file for the K-1 today. You could apply for the B2 today.

If you don't have the money to waste on a B2, then just go for the K-1.
