N-400 Additional Supporting Documents Question

First time posting, apologies in advance if this question is inappropriate / redundant (I did search for a while before posting though).

I am a permanent resident married to a US citizen and just passed my 3rd year with that status. I am preparing to complete and file my form N-400. I am confused as to which documents I should be mailing in with my N-400 form (as opposed to bringing to my hopeful / eventual interview).

What is clear that I should include:

  • Photographs of myself
  • Copy of Green Card
  • Copy of Marriage Certificate

What I am not clear if I should be including (basically anything else):

  • Tax returns from previous 3 years
  • Copy of wife's birth certificate
  • Copy of American born son's birth certificate
  • Copy of wife's passport
  • Shared financial documents (bank accounts, rental lease, auto insurance etc.)

Based on these old posts, it seems like I should send tax info and other financial and identification documents. But even this 2 month old post (June 2016) seems to indicate mailing in other supporting documents. I know with my I-485 I included a lot of these documents, but the instructions for the N-400 (at least the current ones - dated 3/26/16) seem pretty clear on mailing in only those first three items with the form, and to bring everything else to the interview.

Seems like there are a lot of knowledgeable people here. Am I misreading or not understanding something?

Thanks!

Thanks Teeak.

Since none of the "If...." scenarios apply to me (I should have clarified that in my question), it seems I should only be sending in the main first three items, correct? And if so, what's going on in that two month old post where it is suggested to send in all of those additional documents?

Actually doesn't this statement apply: If you are applying for naturalization on the basis of marriage to a U.S. Citizen...

Yup it does, I missed that. I guess that's my answer.

Still confusing since the instructions for the N-400 found here (page 11) list these as "documents to bring with you to your Form N-400 interview." Better safe than sorry, so I'll include them anyway.

Thanks for the help.

Yep, might as well include them if you have them.
