TRAVELLING AFTER RECEIVING GREEN CARD APPROVAL LETTER

Yesterday I received a letter confirming that the conditional basis of my green card has been removed and that I am now a permanent resident. The letter states that my green card (Form I-551) will arrive in 60 days and that I should not leave the United States before receiving it. I'm due to travel in 3 days and am unable to get an INFOPASS appointment before then. Can anyone give feedback on what they experienced at U.S. Customs and Border Protection when they arrived back in the U.S. with an expired green card and a 1 year extension letter after receiving an approval advising them not to travel overseas?

I doubt it will be an issue. CBP can look up your status and see that your I-751 has been approved.

Thanks for your response and for moving the issue to the correct forum.

My concern is travelling when the letter explicitly states that I should not leave the U.S.

I received my green card a few days after the approval letter - so who knows, maybe you will get it before you leave. But you will be fine anyway.

Thanks for your response and for moving the issue to the correct forum.

My concern is travelling when the letter explicitly states that I should not leave the U.S.

What if the letter had arrived few days after you left? I would assume that condition during return.

We weren't in your situation, but we did travel during AOS with an advance parole, and the green card was approved and arrived while we weren't in the US. We came back using the advance parole and it was not an issue. I assume, it won't be an issue in this case either traveling with the expired GC and NOA letter. We just traveled again while waiting for ROC and the officer just accepted the expired GC and didn't even ask for a NOA letter, just looked something up on the computer. I assume they can just see what your status is on the computer, so they'll see that you were just approved and thus have legal status in the US.
