India Mumbai Embassy CR1 question

Hello VJ members,

I petitioned for my wife when I was Permanent Resident. Now I am naturalized , and upgraded my wife's petition. We already had our case complete, so now just waiting for Interview Letter.

I have a couple of questions :

1) The NVC upgraded our case from F2A to IR1. I know that IR1 is for people who are married for more than 2 years, and hence do not have to go through Removal of Conditions later. For us, we are married for 1.5 years now and hence the category would be CR1. Would that have an issue? I would like to know if anyone faced this and what he/she did for the same. I am vary of calling NVC and letting them know , as I feel it might delay the process.

2) As a US Citizen, can I enter the US Consulate at Mumbai, along with my wife for her interview? I know this question has been asked and there are split answers for the same - some telling they were allowed, some saying they werent.

My question is particularly for those who said they were allowed - What did you tell at the entrance gate to let you through?

Thanks in advance for your answers,

Anishp

1 NVC probably thought that by time you get interview it will be 2 yr. Lot of people are getting their file like that. Call NVC and verify

2 I am on same situation trying to enter my wife's interview and googled lot and started topic here too. So far I learn Our NVC Interview letter says we can't go. Mumbai Embassy PDF says We might be able to go in. Some had success getting in there other had to wait outside

So just print this PDF check list show it to guards outside with Passport and see if you get in. I am going to go same way.

When is your interview date ? Is it been week from CC ? I called everyday after my case was complete took them 3 days to scheduled interview.

@maxshah912 : Thanks for your answer.. My wife's interview has not been scheduled as of now...we are waiting for the same. Case was completed in Jan 2016, but since at that time, I was LPR, we couldnt do much but wait for PD to be current as per Visa Bulletin.

Now that I have become a citizen, we have upgraded the case as of 25th July..so , now waiting for interview date...

Intervew was easy and not that many questions

As of joining your spouse for Intervew yes you can. If guard says no have them read Mumbai embassy paper / PDF that says Pattitionar / USC can company their spouse for Intervew.

As for my wife's Intervew it was smooth CO only asked 2 questions.

1 how many family member in your husbands family in US

2 what was your husbands fav cricket player.

And she was handed approval letter :) took her 2 hr tops and she was done. Try to select translator for Intervew because they get Intervew first then English Intervew at end
