Engagement Ring Backup for I-129F

Hi All,

From your experience, how important is it to provide a photo of the engagement ring and the receipt in the I-129F packet?

I ask because I plan on proposing to my GF soon with a promise ring with the intention of us picking the engagement ring shortly thereafter. (I want to get something she really will like and I don't know her ring size and she doesn't know either haha) However, it sounds like it will take the jewelers a few weeks to craft the actual ring and it might not be ready until after she leaves to go back to her own country.

As a little background, we have been seeing each other for 3 1/2 years and I have photo evidence of multiple instances we have been together in addition to chat records, plane tickets, photo of her with my family.

Its not important but it will not hurt to send them in with packet..I did send copy of the receipts and pictures of my fiance wearing the ring with both in the same picture...Is it important or not? That is all up to the adjudicator looking at your file...I say just have her wear the ring even its not the right size, take photos with it and submit them with the petition...

It wouldn't matter at all to USCIS.

It might matter little or not at all to the consular officer.

The key items are the "intent to marry" letters that each of you have provided.

Not important whatsoever. We sent in a receipt of the engagement ring but never any pictures.

I have never had an engagement ring. We'd rather spend our money on travel and good food than jewellery but it is a personal choice. An engagement ring does not prove or disprove the validity of the relationship or the seriousness of your intent to comply with the rules of the visa. All it proves is that you went jewellery shopping.

Focus on the required evidence and you will be fine. You can send extra stuff. But a ring won't make or break your case.

Doesn't matter. We included the e-ring receipt since we had it, but plenty of people don't even have engagement rings!

I'll bring the receipt for the ring (and the ring on my finger of course!) to the interview at the embassy when that day comes. It's not necessary of course but I'm the kind of person who rather do too much than too little, and since I already have it - why not?

The CO in Sweden won't see all this. Remember you have an extreme easy embassy and they really don't need all kinds of things like many other may have to provide.

I know, I said "it's not necessary", and yet that's only one of all the papers in a pile of unnecessary things I'll bring. Just because I can and want to be beyond prepared.

Just be careful you won't annoy them with all that. Just saying since they really don't want all kind of things.

I sure won't force it on them, no. But it'll be there in the file with all the rest, no doubt. In case they ask for it they'll get it, same with all the rest of the stuff I'll bring. I don't trust governments, according to my own experience it won't surprise me one single bit if they ask me for something they usually don't ask of someone else. So yes, I will have it all just in case.

The first part of our journey hasn't exactly been "smooth" either, so I'm definitely not taking any chanses that might delay it even further.
