Caution: DO NOT submit your AOS/IV documents before you submit DS-260

I clearly have BAD LUCK. Following advice on this forum and even the instructions you get after you pay the AOS fee, I submitted all my documents asap. On June 28, I had a case rep. email me that they needed me to submit my DS-260 to finish my case - which I was in the process of finishing. I submitted it that day.

Based on current VisaJourney timelines, and also the 30 day email I got from NVC after I submiited my docs, I was expecting Case Complete last week.

Fast forward: today is July 19. I called for a status update because it has been over 30 days that they received the initial documents. the rep I spoke with on the phone told me that because I submitted the DS-260 separately, that could take up to 60 days to review!!!!!! OMG! I am beyond upset. She further told me that if I had submitted them at the same time, it would have taken 30 days.

If this is the case, why is this not the case for everyone and why do they not explicitly state this in the instructions???

Anyways, I am beyond upset as you can imagine. So if you are like me and wondering if you should submit your AOS and IV documents before you get the DS-260 invoice or submit that, DON"T. Wait the 10 days to 2 weeks it takes them to invoice you. I honestly don't know how I am going to manage for an EXTRA TWO MONTHS of waiting. This entire process is absolutely ridiculous as it is - keeping families apart. I honestly am flabbergasted.

Wishing you better luck than me.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this! I had heard EP only took 7-14 days from Canada.

I also was following other forums/posts about EP and luckily, my husband forgot a form in the IV/AOS package - so I submitted the DS-260 2 days before I sent in the AOS/IV package.

I had no idea this would cause a delay!

Thank you - I am so upset!!!! And angry! I am glad to hear you were able to submit yours before. They make this process so confusing and keep changing how they do things and what they tell you to do. I mean at this point, they have seen the same information about me how many times? Why does it take more than a week to review a DS-260 anyways?
