Naturalization Question

Ok, so I have a 2 year GC. My hubby and I talked about naturalization - he is beyond thrilled that I am considering the possibility of becoming a US citizen. But I have a question though, my hubby loves the Philippines, he misses my family and we plan to visit in a year. We may stay for a few weeks, what I am wondering though is if I travel outside the country - will that affect my chances of becoming a US citizen? I mean, do I have to be in the country 5 years straight without traveling to be eligible for the process? appreciate all your responses.

hi

before getting citizenship, if you have a 2 year gc, you need to remove conditions and get your 10 year gc first

if you stay abroad less than 6 months, it won't affect citizenship in the future

If go you'll be fine. They're looking for those who have the intention of not being here as a permanent resident so out of the country continuously for more then six months is looked upon with scepticism. Go and have fun. Bring your MC with you to the Phil so you and your husband can take advantage of the Balikbayan one-year visa-free stay.

You still have to complete ROC (Removal of Conditions), which for you is almost two years down the road ;) During this time start collecting copies of utility bills, insurance, bank statements, etc in both your names ... these will be needed for ROC.

You can apply for citizenship 3 years (90 days before) from the date you received your current green card.

Traveling to the Philippines for a couple weeks, or months, is not an issue you only need to have 30 months or residency in the USA to file the I-400. https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume12.html

MC is marriage certificate, right? Oh wow, really? That's awesome! Thanks Greenbaum, appreciate it!

OKAY! Now I know. Thank you I never would've known about the insurance and bank statements.
