Visitor Visa for New Canadian PR - Visiting J1 Wife

Hi Members,

I have landed in Canada in April 2016 as a PR and have a permanent job in Toronto. My wife is in US on a J1 visa doing postdoctoral research. I wanted to visit her and thus was thinking of applying for a visitor visa. A lot of people have been telling me that the visa might get rejected.

What I am planning to show as ties to Canada are: Permanent Job, Driver's License, Bank Account.

Please provide your inputs on my case and any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

If you want a visa, apply would be my recommendation.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Do not book tickets.

You don't need tickets to apply for a visa from Canada, especially TO because you can also drive to the border. Unless she has an application pending for you to accompany her or something else, they will give you.

Hi Tommy,

Thanks you for your reply.

1. Will they not ask for my travel plan?

2. Will they be fine with the fact that I have just landed in Canada and want to go to US immediately?

2. Shall I tell them the true reason for my visit - to meet my wife OR just say that I want to visit some tourist destination?

1. Travel plans are ok, but not tickets. The embassies specifically tell people NOT to buy tickets until after they have the visa.

3. You tell the truth, nobody here is going to advise you to lie. Lying could stop you EVER getting a visa

August 2000: We start e-mailing. I'm in Bosnia, she's in Florida

October 29th 2000: She sends me e-mail asking if I would marry her

October 29th 2000(5 seconds later): I say yes

November 2000: She sends me tickets to Orlando for when I get back

December 6th 2000: Return from Bos

December 11th 2000: Fly to Orlando, she meets me at airport

December 22nd 2000: I fly back to UK

January 3rd 2001: She flies to UK (Good times)

Mid February 2001: Pregnancy test Positive

Mid February 2001: She flies back to US

March 2001: Miscarriage, I fly to US on first flight I can get

May 2001: I leave US before my 90 days are up

June 2001: I fly back to US, stopped at airport for questioning as I had only just left

September 2001: Pregnancy test Positive again

September 2001: She falls sick, I make decision to stay to look after her as I am afraid I may have problems getting back in.

April 16th 2002: Our son is born, we start getting stuff together for his passport

March 6th 2003: We leave US for UK as family

Early April 2003: Family troubles make her return to US, I ask Embassy in London about possibilities of returning to US

April 16th 2003: London Embassy informs me that I will be banned from the Visa Waiver Program for 10 years, my little boys first birthday

June 13th 2006: I-129f sent

August 11th 2006: NOA1 Recieved

After our relationship breaks down she admits to me that she had never bothered to start the application process

Tell the truth, it's not that hard! And never ever lie or fudge the truth just to make your case stronger for a visa.

1. They will ask your travel plans, but its a general question that they ask everyone and anywhere "What is the purpose of your travel?"

2. You're landing date doesn't matter as long as you've the PR Card at hand (did you?) if you say you just landed am not sure if you've the PR card or you're trying to apply with the landing papers - just to let you know they will not accept the papers even though Canada tell you it's as good as PR card.

3. My Friend tell the truth, Never ever lie, soon or later they will find out and ban you from entering ever. Anything you tell them will also be on record, it will never go away.

Try its just a couple of CAD eh! if it doesn't work then she can come to TO any time, doesn't she?

Hi Tommy,

Thanks a lot for the response. Yes I have got the PR card.

@All: I was not thinking of lying. What I meant to ask was:

Does meeting my wife at a tourist destination solidify my intentions of leaving US after meeting her. Or will my case be as good as visit her at the place she is residing?

It doesnt matter. You answer the question asked truthfully and thats it. Dont try to outsmart the CO.

Suggest presenting the facts as they are.. without attempting to outsmart the CO with alternative statements just to 'avoid rejection'.
