I am working on my N-400 application. Question #9 asks about involvement in any associations/organizations/clubs/etc. I was in the French Navy, had a couple memberships with churches, and volunteer with non-profits. As a result, I am selecting "Yes" for that question.

9B asks: If you answered “Yes,” provide the information below. If you need extra space, attach the names of the other groups on the additional sheets of paper and provide any evidence to support your answers.

What evidence do I need to provide to support my answers? I have a certificate from the Navy, but the rest I don't have anything in paper proving my involvement.

Thoughts?

For that question, I answered that I was a member of IEEE and SWE. I did not provide any evidence, nor was I asked for any.

I wouldn't worry too much about these questions, they are more interested in checking if the applicant was a member of an illegal or extremist affiliation. Professional societies, church foundations are not going to cause trouble.

You also mentioned you were in French Navy, I am assuming you will also answer Q15A and Q19 also Yes. You will need to explain scope of your service and the dates you served also on a separate sheet for that one as well.

Good to see another fellow IEEE member here!!

Luckily my company reimburses me for the renewal fee, otherwise I'd reevaluate my membership too. :)
