Getting a SSN This Morning - Question

We are driving to get a social security card this morning but I am a bit confused of the requirements. Here on Visa Journey it says you must bring a second form of ID as defined in the SS-5 Instructions (in addition to the passport with Visa) and I read on another visa website that you must bring the foreign birth certificate.

When looking at the SS-5 form it specifically says they will not accept the foreign birth certificate for ID and that in our case all we will need to bring is the passport with visa and I-94. Which one is correct? If another form of ID is needed what can it be? My fiancee arrived here two weeks ago on a K1 Visa.

We just did this ourselves at the end of March. We took his Passport, his birth certificate that was a certified copy in english, his electronic i-94 printed off and his Foreign Driver's License. They looked at all this and made copies and then gave it all back and we got his ssn card in the mail a week later. It is better to have all this with you just in case.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

My wife took the same documents as Prystine, and they did the same (photocopy all). The only difference being, she didn't have an electronic I-94, it was stapled in her passport. Card was received within a week. We also took a copy of our marriage certificate, but it wasn't requested and we didn't offer it. Better to have more than you may need, than to be missing the one thing they might want.

Passport and I-94 are required for evidence of Immigration status, the birth certificate is listed for evidence of AGE.

Don't forget the passport has a U.S. picture ID in it ... the VISA!
