I came to the United States June 11, 2001 on a tourist Visa. I was ten and I was suppose to just stay for summer vacation. Most of my family was already here and when I was about to head back my dad got the Visa and the decision was made that we will all start our lives here. It's been 15 years and I am part of the Deferred Action. I have a SS# and I have been doing taxes with my father since 2005 or earlier. I am 25 today and about to earn my Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. There are some companies that are welcoming DACA students but I would like to know if there is any possibility to get on the path to citizenship. I came from Poland and all of those 15 years I feel like I have been in the shadows, not reaching my full potential. Any way that I can get some information or advice?

DACA doesn't provide a pathway to legal permanent residency (LRP) or citizenship.

If you married a US citizen, you could adjust status because you came on a visa. Then, you'd become a LRP for 3 years, after which you'd apply for citizenship.

I don't know about much about work visas. A friend of mine was in your situation, having been brought to the US on a visa at age 9 and had DACA. He graduated college and got a job for a multinational tech company. He went to work out of the country, in his home country, for about a year and came back to work for the same company on a H1B visa. I believe his company had to do a waiver because he had illegal presence starting at age 18 pre-DACA.

I think H1B visa holders can become a resident at some point and then apply for citizenship after 5 years of being a LPR.

None of these options are particularly easy. Yes, it sucks. You and many others are in the same situation, but at least you can take heart in having DACA. That's more than many people have.

How can a company file a waiver for a prospective employee? I thought only relatives could do that.

OP you entered legally. IMHO don't leave the country, keep getting DACA extensions. When you meet your future spouse, most likely he/she will be a USC, so you'll be able to easily AOS through them, get GC and later citizenship.

LOL. I meant that statistically most likely (most people in the US are USCs), obviously I'm talking about a genuine future relationship.
