Gethering Forms - Confused!

Hi everyone,

our case just got approved by the Nebraska Service Center (wohoo!) and now i´m trying my best to prepare for the next steps.

Now i´m a bit confused on which forms we need to gather for the NVC...

I´ve read in another forum that i as the beneficiary need forms from my husband to send with the IV package; on here and also in the NVC guide that doesn´t seem to be the case.

Since i live in germany and my husband lives in the US sending forms back and forth takes time i just wanted to clarify:

Do i actually need to include any documents from my husband in the IV package or just mine?

In the other forum it said that i need to include a copy of his passport (first 2 pages), birth certificate, divorce decree (he has been married previously) and possibly military records (he´s still on active duty until june).

And - aside from the IV package - do i need any documents from him later on; for example at the interview?

Sorry if those questions are kinda dumb but i´d just like to get ahead of things to save us time.

Oh, and this is about a CR-1 visa.

In the IV package no, but in the AOS yes. Remember you will be sending photocopies to the NVC, not originals. Originals go to interview with you.

Because your husband qualifies to make 100% of the poverty guidelines vs 125% you should bring proof of his active military status to the interview with the AOS package. Also having his previous divorce decree is recommended. Have him courier the AOS package to you so you have those originals to take to interview.

You will not need his passport page or birth certificate. If you were filing DCF these would be needed but you are not and his citizenship has already been established with the I-130.

Read through this link carefully. It's directly from the Department of State (NVC) website and it gives the step by step process.

A few years ago the AOS and IV (supporting documents) could be sent in separately; however, now the NVC is requiring the AOS and IV be sent as ONE package. Your husband sending one package and you sending another will only delay the process. If your husband is the US Citizen, I would advise you to send all of your supporting documents to your husband. He can then can organize it in the order that NVC wants it and he can then FedEx it to them. He only needs to submit photocopies in the packages. You will keep the originals. When it's time for you to go to the interview, you will take the original documents PLUS photocopies of the originals to the interview. Since he only needs photocopies, you can email him your documents unless you don't trust to send sensitive documents via the net.

My husband used DHL express to send me all his documents (again photocopies) because he didn't trust the internet cafe's in India to properly and permanently delete his information from the computer once he scanned it and deleted it.

It won't be so confusing once you read through the steps a few times. Then it will all start to make sense.
