Hey Team,

I'm working on my I-130 application and have a question about what evidence you included with your initial application.

My husband and I still live in different countries, so we do not have any property together, no lease, no children, and have yet to join our financials - we all know how strong the Canadian $ is right now, lol.

Is it sufficient enough to include a fair amount of photo's of us and our families together? We are within driving distance so there aren't any plane tickets or anything. We have taken a few trips together, should I include that information?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Karoline

Also, phone logs, fb chats, whatapp chats, if your passport is stamped crossing the boarder you can include that, and you can include credit card receipts from near each other

Hi Karoline,

If you're living separately in different countries, there isn't the expectation to have joint leases and financials. I included pictures with descriptions of who was in them, any charges from each of our credit cards showing you charged items in the US or he charged items when he was in Canada. I also included photo-copies of any cards we gave eachother as well as photocopies of cards our family and friends gave us for our wedding. I sent in about 6 random months of my phone bills and highlighted every time I called his number - to demonstrate we are in contact daily. I know you mentioned you drive over the border, but if you DO have any flight itinerary/boarding passes of when you both went away together, I would send those as well. I also sent in photocopies of receipts that I had for a gift I sent to his house for him and sent the receipt for my engagement ring that he paid for...(if it's a fraudulent marriage, people wouldn't be investing so much time and money into these things).

I'm not sure if you've done so already, but as soon as we got married we each added eachother as the beneficiaries to any work or personal pensions and RRSPs. So, I sent in the confirmation emails I had when I changed him to my beneficiary.

Remember once you put your package together to take 2 photocopies of the whole package just in case it gets lost or something goes missing!

Good luck!

Hey there krusso9!

My husband and I are in the same situation. These are some of the things we used for proof:

  • photocopies of envelopes sent to me from him and his mom over the last 6 years
  • photocopy of our wedding invitation, thank you card, and photos from the wedding
  • photocopy of wedding reception contract
  • screen caps from Facebook showing other people (our friends) have uploaded photos of us with friends over the years
  • photocopies of our individual life insurance policies, showing each other as the beneficiary
  • proof that I changed my last name to his

There was probably more but that was the meaty part of it! We haven't been approved yet but I'm not sweating it. Good luck!

I was in the same situation. Driving distance so no plane tickets except when we went on one trip so saved those. Kept tickets from events we attended that were ordered online with our names on it. Photos not so much of us together but instead with each other's family members. I had children from previous marriage so I had mostly pictures of him with them and you could see them getting older over a period of 3 years so that helped me. I had emails back and forth giving each other driving directions at the beginning. We had NO mixed finances however what I chose to do was open a US RBC account and add him to that since we couldn't be added to each other's home country accounts at that time. By doing this I was able to present a bank statement showing both our names on it. It wasn't ready for the initial application but i had it on standby in case they sent an RFE or asked for more at any point. We would both transfer some money in there and then use our cards for purchases to there was some activity.
