My wife is about to submit the DS-260 to NVC and we are both slightly confused about the supporting document requirements.

Question 1:

According the the official NVC site is says:

  • You must send photocopies of all required civil documents to the NVC.
  • You must submit the originals (or certified copies) and a photocopy of each of your required civil documents to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate at the time of your interview.

As per the above instruction it says to submit ONLY photocopies to the NVC and the originals later to the U.S. Embassy at the time of the interview. By the specific requirements of U.S. Embassy in Tokyo they ask the beneficiary to bring the originals to the interview - not to send anything ahead of time.

It's bit confusing since I'm reading about people submitting both the photocopies + originals to the NVC. Is this really required? Clearly the NVC site says to send ONLY photocopies. Can anyone share their experience in this process.

Question 2:

Does the requirement for the DS-260 supporting documents applies to both of us (applicant - me, and beneficiary - her) or only to her. For example does her DS-260 supporting document package should include my birth certificate and other documents related to me?

Question 3:

How does the above apply to the children who are immigrating with my wife (as my step-children). She is submitting separate DS-260 for each of them. Do they need our marriage certificate or any other copies (e.g. our prior divorce records) in their supporting package?

It's bit confusing since I'm reading about people submitting both the photocopies + originals to the NVC. Is this really required? Clearly the NVC site says to send ONLY photocopies. Can anyone share their experience in this process. Only photocopies. Please take literally what NVC says to avoid a checklist. Keep originals/certified copies for Interview.

Question 2:

Does the requirement for the DS-260 supporting documents applies to both of us (applicant - me, and beneficiary - her) or only to her. For example does her DS-260 supporting document package should include my birth certificate and other documents related to me? The DS-260 and documents is all about the beneficiary/Immigrant This is their Immigration Visa application.

Question 3:

How does the above apply to the children who are immigrating with my wife (as my step-children). She is submitting separate DS-260 for each of them. Do they need our marriage certificate or any other copies (e.g. our prior divorce records) in their supporting package? Each person should have their own packet of documents. So just make copies of everything and make separate packets.
