Cancelling a K-1 Visa?

Does anyone know how to go about it so far down the line? My interview is in January but I would really rather let the embassy know in advance rather than just not attend so they can perhaps give a (probably more deserving) couple that appt instead.

contact the embassy and USCIS in writing, only the petitioner can withdraw the petition

Choose the reason " My inquiry concerns immigrant visas and is not covered by information on your website" because it is the Immigrant Visa Unit that handles the K1s.

Tell them you wish to withdraw your DS-160 K1 visa application and cancel your interview. Be clear in stating I am no longer seeking a fiance visa. The petition will expire on it's own.

If this is a new development and knee jerk reaction by yourself, you might want to let the dust settle and your head clear before you burn your bridges. There's no cancellation deadline.
