Clearly you have never met me. There's not a Black Friday bargain in the world that would make me camp out overnight in the DC area in late November.

Getting up at o'dark-thirty to be one of the first in line?

Nor is there a Black Friday bargain in the world that would persuade me get up at o'dark thirty. That's reserved for occasions when I need to travel long distances to do something fun, not for the faint possibility of elbowing my way to a cheapo TV.

What do you want/plan to get?

To sleep in, have a leisurely brunch and spend a lazy afternoon with friends. Much more valuable than anything the big box stores could try to sell me, no matter how huge the discounts

I have not seen a single thing that will make me go out Thursday after supper.

We will get up and go check out things Friday morning when the little Jedi wakes us up. I bought most stuff already so we are going just in case we see something that wasn't advertised.

About 3 Viernes Negros ago, a couple of Mrs. T-B.'s cousins were visiting. We got to a big mall at 6 a.m. They spent about $1,000, including carrying new armfuls of clothing to one store's checkout counter before the cashier had finished ringing up their previous piles of stuff.

I have no particular plans to shop; one resale store typically offers "every clothing item for $1" on Viernes Negro, so I might go there. I'll look on-line for cat food & litter (nothing beyond the ordinary prices was there as of yesterday), and maybe motor oil and car supplies. Viernes Negro is a great time to do other things, such as get the car inspected.

In response to Elf's observations, I personally would consider it to be optimal if no day began earlier than noon or 1 p.m.

Black Friday just isn't the same anymore

They moved up all the store opens to late thanksgiving night or midnight and it just ruins the fun of meeting new people in line and tag teaming to get every good item at a store.

Such a shame what it has turned into in the last few years.

There is nothing I need, or want, that would get me out of my nice warm cot and into a queue in front of a shop, in the cold and dark. If I do any shopping at all, it will be the online variety.

I've seen the people on the news, huddled in tents, who have been out there in all weathers for a week. I think I am lacking that go for the jugular shopping gene.

So tomorrow I have to work from 6am-12:30pm. Then I go BACK to work at 9pm to 3:30am. This is to set up for Thursday night. Store opens at 6pm on Thursday. (Thankfully this year I don't have a cashier shift at 5pm!) I work again from 12am - 8:30am on Friday where I fill empty endcaps, etc... FML.

Any shopping I will be doing will be done on lunch break on Friday. So about 4:30 in the morning.

Black Friday would be the day following Thanksgiving Day in the USA (the fourth Thursday connected with November). Since the early on 2000s, it has been regarded as the start of the Christmas shopping season in the USA, and most major stores open very early (and recently during overnight hours) and provide promotional sales.

Black Friday seriously isn't an official holiday, but California and a few other states observe "The Day After Thanksgiving" as being a holiday for state federal employees, sometimes in lieu connected with another federal holiday for instance Columbus Day.

Many non-retail employees and schools have both Thanksgiving and the following Friday off, which often, along with the pursuing regu.

Good news -- here we have lines, not queues. Therefore, you can shop in-line, vs. on-line!

OK: I enterprisingly found some of the newspaper ads and perused those of interest, see man.

The current leaders are Pep Boys, Dollar General, and maybe Home Depot.

Dollar General is conveniently open all day Thursday.

I can reserve what I want at Pep Boys on their website Thursday for Friday in-store pickup.

The item at Home Depot isn't crucial, but HD won't be as swamped as some other places.

I looked longingly at the Sears flyer. A couple of years ago, Mrs. T-B. & I decided to go on Thanksgiving eve when Sears tried that for the first time. We got there two hours early, and the line was wrapped literally halfway around the store. It took something like 90 minutes to reach the front of the line, where actual city policemen were allowing 25 customers at a time to enter. Fortunately, the shopping experience was fine, but I don't want to brave those Sears lines again.

I'm rather disappointed that Petco, PetSmart, and Chewy.com don't seem to have much going on in the crucial arenas of cat food or cat litter... maybe I began looking a day too early...
