Family shipping fiance his possessions after entrance on K1?

I've already told my fiance on how things are normally shipped when you're moving on K1. Give it to UPS, go to ship it, usually the day of or the day before, then send them a copy of the I-94 and your stamped visa showing you have entered the country once you've entered, which will then allow them to release the package through customs and come here duty free.


Now he's not sure if that's how he wants to do it that way.

Is there any major difference if he has his parents send him the boxes AFTER he's already in the country?

Any duties, anything like that? He was thinking he would have them ship it once he's here. Everything in the boxes are his and been in his possession for well over a year.

Has anyone done this with ease?



I personally think he should do it the "normal" way, but if this way works too then sure why not.

Normally people bring their belongings with them. It's significantly cheaper to pay for extra bags as the airport than to ship an item. For instance I was going to ship my husband his telescope. The cheapest i could ship it was $127. But taking it as an extra bag was at most $50.

I came down in back uhaul and others use u packs or pods. Some people wait until they can travel again.

However he can do what he wants but he needs to itemize the list of shipped items extensively including their value. He needs this form.

And yeah he's bringing everything he can in his bags, but he still has his computer that he needs to send which is a rather heavy desktop with a large monitor. So far he's planning on two carry ons and two checked bags!

He only needs to send three boxes MAX, most likely just two though.

You normally can only have a personal item and a carry on, not two carry ons... check the airline regulations.

Yeah he's doing his backpack as personal and then an actual carry on. Backpack fits personal item requirments. I just consider everything carry on I think. Sorry about the confusion!
