Montreal Consulate No Longer Scheduling Interviews

So, my fiance and I have been having good luck so far with our processing, thanks in part to the guides and community here.

When we were trying to schedule her Visa Interview with the Montreal Consulate yesterday (1 Nov 2015), we found out that they are not available for online booking of visa interviews. Her calling the booking line for the consulate today, she was told that they are not currently scheduling any interviews AT ALL. We were recommended to have her case transferred to the Vancouver Consulate (soonest interview can be scheduled is 4 weeks from now). Is this a good idea? Or should we just wait until something may opens up?

I wonder (and hope) if it is just that they are overbooked and still trying to figure that out. It doesn't make sense how they would just stop scheduling interviews, as they just opened up a bunch of spots for the end of January last week.

My thought right now, is that because we looked on 1 November, something changed with their scheduling (going out a couple years, there's nothing to book). It's good to know that they had appointments available at the end of January 2016 just last week though.

They don't have all the dates available at once, they seem to open a few weeks at a time, a month (or two) in advance. So it's not like they're booked for the next two years, just that everything that's been released so far is taken.

Seems like sometimes people cancel their appointments though, so usually people advise that you keep your eyes open and check often for an opening.

I'm curious as to whether the Consulate people advised you to switch to Vancouver?

I feel like switching to the Vancouver consulate would only be worth it if you guys are in a hurry to get the process done and you are possibly closer to Vancouver than Montreal, or don't mind spending the extra cash to fly out to Vancouver. I personally feel like saving the money on the flights to Vancouver and just waiting and checking every day until something opens up would be best. Just means you'll have an extra few hundred dollars in the bank for the move down to the US.

They are released at certain times. From what I've seen, it's usually you catch them at the end of the month, or you have to wait again. They also only open up one or two months max at a time to people to schedule into. So example, if you see Dec or Jan, you most likely won't see Feb. Doesn't mean that there won't be any appointments in Feb, it's just that at the time Feb appointments don't exist. Feb would probably open up around late Dec early Jan.

My fiance scheduled his on the 24th of July, all of August was taken, most of September was open, and there were no Oct dates when he looked.

But it's very reasonable that they weren't scheduling any interviews at all when the person called.

So, I guess we were both freaking out for nothing. Appointments for January 2016 opened up this evening. Thanks to those that answered though, since just you saying that they open dates in blocks helped a lot.

Same here. We were thankfully able to snag one of the ones in early January 2016 (which is what we were planning on). Thank you all for the conversation, and I hope everyone that needs those appointments was able to get one.
