Why do we have to be on time with Govt but they don't?

So i sent for 2 copies of my birth certificate in July for the visa interview (which might never actually happen-it's been over 200 days already and they haven't touched it) The state did not have enough paper for 2 copies and sent me one (pretty crappy) copy and promised to refund the cost of the one not sent within 30 days.

It's now Oct and still no refund. So I called and got a long story about how "the system might not have processed July yet", etc.

And can I call back in 2 weeks. Sure I don't have anything else to do but follow up on the job that you aren't doing. (and the jobe TSC is not doing, and the job that almost no one at any level of govt seems to be doing)

Can I ask what would happen if the reverse were true? I'm 3 or 4 months late with sending in my property taxes or my school taxes for example? Could I just say, "welll you know, I have not been able to process that yet. Can you call back in a few weeks and I will see if I can do that?"

When we sent for an FOI request they took close to a year to send us papers we already had AND NOTHING THAT WE ASKED FOR. Not one document that we asked for was sent to us. Not sure what took them a year, because we could have made copies here, and mailed them to ourselves in about a week. But somehow that took a year.

Wouldn't it be great if we had that kind of leeway? "Here is my 1040 but I've decided to substaniate my income with a few pages from A Christmas Carol. They're talking about money so this should do. I realize it doesn't have anything to do with what you asked for."

Wouldn't it be great if we were not held to strict timelines and high penalites for missing those guidelines? And we could just blow them off by not ever doing what was asked or by giving a nonsense statement -like most of you are getting when you call TSC about your year wait? Why is this such a one way government?

I've obviously venting and I've reached my boiliing point in all of this.

Little people do not matter.

"If the reverse were true" you'd still be waiting on the government. This is the nature of things, they are the gatekeepers.

Vent, and then relax. Whenever I am stymied by a seemingly careless, nonchalant or uninvolved individual representing the "gatekeeper" I try to remember this:

They may be slow, they be sloppy, they may lack any empathy for your situation and disrespect the fact that you've done things right and per their rules.

But, they aren't corrupt, they can't be bribed (by others) and you can be sure that eventually, if you do things according to the way they set the task before you, and keep records, you will get results.

Good luck!

That was a funny read man if I had a dollar for everytime I thought the same things you do. Here is a fun one for you, I actually do owe the IRS a pretty good bit of money, long story and not fitting to tell here, point is though. Yesterday I called because they have not posted my amended returns online yet so I cant start paying them, Sat on hold for 2.5 hours, yes almost 3 hours waiting and then a woman comes on the phone and says, well we have not processed them yet, call us back in 2 weeks and then we will tell you how much to pay..........really? Why cant you window lickers call me?
