I-864 Assets vs. Joint Sponsor

Dear VJ'ers,

I am the intending immigrant. My wife is the petitioner (USC).

We are both living in Egypt. She has zero income as she is a homemaker. My income from my job cannot be used, because it will not continue when we move to the US.

We've used both her assets and mine. The total is barely above the requirement which is (3x 125% of HHS poverty Guidelines).

I have 2 concerns here:

-We barely pass the required threshold

-A significant part of the assets consists of a stock portfolio. Stock prices are variable by nature, and I fear that they might discount the value of this asset

I do have a friend ready to be a joint sponsor. So now I'm trying to decide whether:

-Apply with zero income, zero assets + Joint Sponsor?

-Apply with zero income, all assets only

-Apply with zero income, all assets + Joint Sponsor ?

I know I might be over-thinking it, but I really do not want to waste time with an RFE or worse, the application being rejected completely.

you can use her parents income (mom and dads combined) which should be 125% .

If most of the assets are stocks and you just make the requirement I would suggest finding another option. Your thinking is sound regarding the valuation and how that would be seen by the consular officer.

If the friend is willing then that is how I would go. Why have the stress, possible RFE's, and delays. Get the visa. Your friend is still in line behind your spouse if there ever was a claim.

Can't hurt. But be sure to follow the valuation guidelines and include all the documentation.
