Suggestions / Ideas: IR5 Cases, Hiding User Pics, Multiple Timelines

Here are a couple of suggestions/ideas. Does anyone else agree?

1. In the main Forums page: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/... there are main topics for Family & Marriage Based US Visa Immigration Discussion, and the two topics at the top of the list are very specific for specific Visas (K-1and IR1 / CR1), There should be another specific area for IR5 visas, otherwise it is hard to find IR5 cases under Bringing Family Members of US Citizens to America... Because that topic is too broad... perhaps that topic should be broken down into several, more specific options. It seems like the entire site is geared more toward K-1 visas, like there is a lot of K-1 visa info on every single page, but not a lot of info or focus on other type of cases.

2. Hiding Photos... just like we are able to change our settings to hide the signatures while we are browsing, we should be able to hide all user profile photos while browsing, and also hide all signatures, not just the blocked ones on our list. The purpose of this is to be able to browse topics quickly without distractions. For example, I sometimes have to answer posts or look at a reply to my post while I am at work, and some of the user photos are a bit too much to have on my work computer monitor while people pass by, I wish I could still browse topics without having to look at people's profile pics.

3. Several/Multiple Timelines for different cases. Currently my process in my settings is set to IR5, however I have previous timelines and experiences with Student Visa, Green Card through Marriage to US Citizen, Removal of Condition on Green Card and Citizenship/Naturalization... I think it would be helpful to be able to add other timelines as the same user, like "previous timelines/cases" or something like that.

4. Prompt users to create their timelines. I have been in contact with several users with my same case, but I see that their timelines are not in the VJ timelines. I know the timeline is optional, but you should prompt new users to create them and also prompt them once in a while to update them.

5. Wiki Organization... The Wiki's Main Page should have more info on all topics and classifications of each topic, like a "site map" of all links on wiki, but what link falls under what link. I tried to find IR5 info on the Wiki and was unable to do so... but I know it's there somewhere because I read a post somewhere were a user posted a link to it, but now I don't recall where I read that and have no way of finding it.

There is a link to view all the Wiki pages, and I don't see anything for IR5 there > http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Special:AllPages

And you can hide all signatures already. You do not have to individually ignore someone or their signature. There is a box at the top when you go to My Settings> 'Ignore' Preferences that says, 'Ignore all signatures when reading topics and personal messages'. Check that box and surf through VJ without having to view any signatures at all.

I can;t vote in your poll because I have different opinions on different suggestions...

1. Don't think that is needed, the Bringing Family forum is not super busy, and you can also use the Advanced Search. Additionally, many of the Family cases have things in common.

2. Not a bad idea, not such if it is technically possible with the software we use. If there are user pics which are questionable/ against the TOS/ NSFW, please do report them and a moderator can look at them and, if they breach TOS, have them removed too.

4. It does. I remember getting emails every 6 months or so asking me to fill in the timeline.

5. Never used that, so not commenting either way.

One thing that I wish was that the profile setting (and timeline too I suppose) allowed you to differentiate between IR1 and CR1, since it appears (based only on what I've noticed) that often CR1 go through more quickly, I suppose because they have to adjust status later on and jump through more hoops at that time.

I know there are so many variables in how well you complete your forms, what stuff you send, which service centre, whose desk your file lands on, and also what country the beneficiary is from, so it wouldn't be definitive, but it would allow you to more easily compare apples and apples when you're looking at timelines. As it is you can click through to timeline if someone doesn't have an informational signature, and so on, but I think the search features coming off the portals and timelines would be possibly more reflective of people's actual situations/possible future timelines if we could split those out.

I have no idea of how difficult that would be to implement, and I suppose it would not be helpful to current VJers so much as future ones, but it has crossed my mind more than once

For the benefit of others who will read this thread, it needs to be noted that CR-1 visa holders do not adjust status, they remove conditions on residency.

Not that I have anything against any particular mod's signature, but it would be nice if mods were not exempt from the "Hide All Signatures" function. I turn off all sigs from time to time, and mods' sigs are the only ones not capable of being turned off.

Hmmm, not aware of that functionality. It is of little consequence to me.

Errr, as a mod I assume it would be of little to no consequence to you. But it just seems odd that sigs for mods can't be turned off when all others may be. There's seldom anything of true consequence in anyone's signature.
