Question around timing

Hi all,

I've been a long time lurker of this forum and have finally joined the engaged club!

I'm an Australian living in London and my fiance is from Atlanta where we will be living once we have been through the (incredibly fun) process of obtaining a K-1...

I have almost finished putting all our paperwork and supporting evidence together (photos, passport stamps, boarding passes, declarations) and will be ready to submit this soon. We are currently looking at getting married early October 2016.

I have a question around the timing of submitting our petition. Given our October 2016 target, I was wondering if it was almost too early to submit the petition given the chance that it could go to CSC and be approved in a timely manner. On the flip side, I understand that if the petition was sent to TSC every single day would count, and looking at some of the horror stories on here 13 months is still cutting it fine...

Any guidance would be appreciated, this forum is a godsend and I'm not sure how anybody can obtain a visa without tapping in to the collective knowledge available here!

While it is bets not to plan a wedding until you have the visa in hand, I would say it is not too early. If things move fast for you, you can always delay a bit at interview stage, and then the visa is valid for 6 months, and then you have 90 days once you are in the USA.

They say not to make and definite plans (booking venue etc) until you've got your visa in hand. If I were you I'd get the petition on it's way. If it turns out your petition is done "too early" then you can always stall it. You can also get married just the two of you and then have a bigger ceremony later. A lot of people, including me, have done so.
