Yesterday we had our interview at Monrovia, Embassy .

Co: did you play the dv together?

CO : when did you get married?

CO : Which school did you graduate from

Co: do you have any children?

We answer everything, she opened our affidavit of support form and said to us that our affidavit is not above the poverty guardline. she give us a piece of paper and she said she they will call us back if only they have any appointments.

So sad!

she said to us, our affidavit of support is under the poverty guardline. next, she told us to find new affidavit of support. will contact us if any appointments be available.

Now, we already contacted someone and the affidavit of support will be send today.

What can we do now?

It seems all you can do is wait, though it's probably worth calling the embassy to ensure they receive the new affidavit and are looking for a new appointment slot (actually they shouldn't need another appointment if you already interviewed and are just missing one thing so that is strange) - good luck.

Was it really under the poverty guideline?? Or was it just the officer's thought that it wouldn't be enough for the both of you?

Remember it needs to take the sponsor's family into account as well. So if the sponsor has a family of 4 already and want to sponsor two more they need to have the required income for the poverty guideline for 6 people...not just the two people being sponsored.

  • 7 months later...

I'm under AP because of police clearance and have waited for a month and half now. Pls when did u think they will call me to submit. Pls advise since I am now frustrated.

Can you explain what you mean - did you not have your police clearance certificate when you went for your interview?

If so and you have it now why do you need to wait to be "called", surely you can just hand it in? (Different embassy but I had the same thing and just sent it in when it was ready)

Or did I misunderstand what you meant?

I have lived in Nigeria after 16yrs of age and I didn't know that I must provide a police clearance from there. I just got one from Liberia police here and they sent me to get another from Nigeria which I have done. Pls can anyone tell me when they will call me to submit.

(OK, lesson number one here (for others) is to be sure you have carefully read the dvselectee pages linked from your selection letter to ensure you understand and meet all the requirements so that you don't get situations like this)

obiakaka, I'm still not clear on if you have sent your Nigerian clearance and passport to the embassy yet, and if not why?

I haven't sent them. After my interview the CO told me to email them as soon as I got it which I did but they keep telling me that they can't call me now because I am under legal mandatory AP and should therefore wait for 90 days or more. And am confused because 90 days is a hell of time waiting. Pls I need your advice.

While 90 days isn't unusual for security-related AP, it seems very strange to me that you are told you have to wait 90 days just to submit a missing document. I can't help wondering if the person who responded to your email took note of your case details or if they just sent a routine response that they send to everyone on AP. Have you tried calling them to actually talk to someone?

Alternatively, you might want to just send it in anyway without waiting for them to respond (keep a photocopy of the document) with your passport if they didn't keep your passport, making sure to enclose as well a copy of the AP piece of paper which I presume they gave you; and ensure your name and case number is clearly visible with the documents. If you do this preferably use a courier as well so that you have evidence of delivery to the consulate, and make sure it is addressed to the diversity visa/immigrant visa section.
