State Police Criminal Records Check

Hi.

I was curious to see if anyone else had been in a similar position...

I am (hopefully) going to US at the end of September on a K-1 visa. I will be applying for the EAD when we file for AOS after our wedding on 17th October.

My job is within schools/education and I have been looking at volunteer positions to apply for once I arrive in PA.

As with UK schools there are checks that have to be adhered to prior to employment. One specific school district requires a PA State Police Clearance, Department of Public Welfare Clearance, FBI Check etc. I will be bringing Police Clearance from UK and a DBS Clearance with me.

Has anyone else worked at schools and if so, how do you get these checks when you are new to the Country?

Thanks

Do you have experience of this situation Nich-Nick?

No, nor with Pennsylvania. But my method for finding answers is going to the source. I would ring up PA State Police and and ask to be transferred to the department that handles security checks. Then I would tell the story...new immigrant wife from England...volunteering...can you do a check on new person...what is needed, etc?

I did have to get FBI clearance once because my financial guy wanted me to fill in occasionally at his office. (Required by the Securities and Exchange Commission SEC because they traded on the stock exchange). I had to go to the local police department and get ink fingerprints done on a card the office supplied. They handled the rest of it. Your AOS/EAD biometrics appointment will include fingerprints which get an FBI check. I have this in my old VJ phone list from when my husband doing AOS.

FBI 304-625-5590 (during AOS if you're dying to know your fingerprints were accepted)

I never called because I wasn't bothered with progression once he was here. But it might be a place to ask questions and if you can have access to results for employment purposes. It may be that the employer has to handle it and what you read is just a warning that you will be checked.

Ok, thank you for your input. I will of course contact them at the source. I was just curious if anyone had been in this specific school situation.
