My girlfriend got a job in the USA - I'd like to go too... (both Canadian)

Hello, sorry if this is the wrong section but here's a little bit about my situation:

  • My Canadian girlfriend will be working in the USA on a TN visa

  • I'm self employed, and although I could also qualify for a TN visa, I have little interest in taking a job.

  • She will in all likelihood be there for at least a year, and potentially up to 3 years or more, so obviously I would like to maximize the time I can be there as well.

As far as I can tell, the most straightforward option would be for me to enter on a B-2 visa, which would allow me to stay for 6 months. If I did that and stayed for 6 months, how long would I have to leave the country to be able to return for another period? My understanding is that the maximum is 6 months over any 12 month period, which would mean I would have to leave for 6 months before being allowed to return - is that accurate?

Are there any other types of visas or options I may have?

Would there be any course of action I could take if I wanted to maintain my business while in the US? (freelance business, 100% online for Canadian clients)

Is it possible for me to piggyback on her TN visa as her common law husband?

Any other ideas/suggestions/warnings/etc would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance!

Obvious option get married.

You can look at B Cohabitating but no work allowed.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

That she has in this case a work visa.

That you have been cohabitating.
