Anyone who has experienced doing k1 with a child?

Hi everyone!

I am posting a new topic to gather more insights from those who have experienced doing k1 visa with a child to come to US too.

I understand that we have to pay for 2 visa fees- for me and my 2 yr old daughter. But do I really need to schedule another interview date for my daughter? If yes, what usually happens in the embassy during that time? Will the mother get interviewed by the COs?

I am hoping to read your experiences. Thank you so much.

I came to the US as a child on a K1. Here is the short version of how the interview went. I went with my mother at the embassy. I was sitting on a bench in the waiting area. They called her up to a window, asked her questions and in a short time we were free to go. We came there together and not separate.

Hi ak! Thank you for your response. That's cool.

I am just confused whether I have to schedule for her interview or she should just come with me during 'my' interview. Some people say, i should schedule her separately.. :/

I have no experience with your country specifically but my recommendation would be together.

I recently went to the interview with my fiancee together and within less than 3 minutes her visa was approved. It was really quite simple. A couple ahead of us had 2 children. The children came with them. The mother and the US citizen fiancee went up to the window and I assume were interviewed. The children waited on the bench. Within 10 minutes their interview was done.

You should have the interview together. There is nothing a 2 year old can answer really. Read through the guidelines at the US Embassy Manila website for K1 and K2. K2 is dependent on your K1 visa, you schedule your interview (You can call or email US Embassy Manila) including your K2 and bring your daughter with all her documents including medical.

I am assuming you already know all the process and requirements. Such as payment, DS 160, etc.

I had a K-1 and two K-2s for my visa journey. Here is what happens. When you go to create your interview receipt for the bank you do one for each person that appears on your I-129f, children included. Pay their fees and then when you are scheduling, you do Mom's first, at the end it will ask if you have any others to schedule. At which time you answer yes and add the child(ren) to. They will all have the same scheduled date and time as Mom. All will be interviewed at the same time. They all will recite the oath together. Most questions will be asked of Mom. The one question they like to ask of the children is "what do you call Brian" to which they are looking for a connection between you and them. Of course her daughter is 2 years old, so I would venture to say there will be no questions of her.

Any other questions please post or you can PM me directly.

This gave us a clearer picture, Greenbaum! Thank you so much.

Btw, just out of curiosity, do I need to secure an NBI clearance for my daughter too? My papers are all ready. We are just waiting for our Manila Case #. And I just want to make sure we have everything...

I read in the cfo site that I can attend the GCP even before I schedule my medical examination or interview. If so, would you know if they issue the sticker right away or would I need a visa on hand?

Thank you so much.

According to the Embassy Letter (remember it's the bible used for all things for the interview) "all applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance (for travel abroad purposes) from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)". Any minor under the age of 16 does not require a NBI clearance.

You can attend the CFO session (appointment required) without your visa being issued. Upon successful completion, CFO will issue you a "certificate of completion" and when you get your visa from USEM, then you can return (no appointment necessary) to any CFO location, Cebu, NAIA or Manila and they will attach your CFO "sticker" to your passport.

Hope this helps

Yes you need to schedule two interviews. When you log into your profile after paying your visa fees to schedule the interviews, you schedule your interview, then when you have completed that the system will ask if you want to schedule another, this is when you schedule your daughter. both will be at the same time.

They will interview you, and they will want to see your daughter, being only two years old they won't be asking her much...

Follow the embassy instructions letter for requirements, some documents are not required of the daughter because of age (NBI, CENOMAR)

Hello everyone, i am back!

We had paid the visa fees and scheduled the interview! Thank you soo much for all your help.

I just have a concern though regarding the interview appointment.

So I clicked schedule appointment. Then filled out that it's for k1. Then after creating/updating my dashboard, it asked if i have someone who would be applying for a visa too with me like a child and so i listed my child.. during the fee payment verification, it asked for 2 receipts. One for me and my daughter... then scheduled the interview. However, when I viewed my appointment history, my daughter's info says k1 visa just like mine.. is this a problem?

No problem as you are only reserving an appointment for the interview and thus they know from your paperwork that there is going to be a K1 and a K2.
