New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has found a new supporter in the Deflategate scandal: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Speaking to Fox's business channel on Thursday, Trump said the NFLhas gone out of its way to make Brady a fall guy (via SI.com):

I think it's ridiculous the way they've treated [brady].

He's a friend of mine—he's a great friend of mine. He's a great guy, and I think it's ridiculous the way they've treated him. To spend $10 million in legal fees, and now it's probably higher than that, it's crazy. He's a great star. They ought to go back to playing football. This country has bigger problems.

Trump is the latest to offer support for Brady as the star signal-caller goes through an appeal to have his four-game suspension reduced or thrown out.

In May, former Patriots wide receiver Troy Brown told Jim Corbett ofUSA Today (via ESPNBoston.com) that the NFL was using Brady as a scapegoat.

"They had nothing concrete on Tom. It's unfortunate you suspend a guy for four games, saying, 'We're going to suspend you anyway because we think you did something,'" Brown said.

Brady and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell are scheduled to appear in court Aug. 31 if the two sides don't reach a settlement. Per a report from ESPN.com, citing ESPN's Adam Schefter, there are no settlement talks planned between the NFL and NFL Players Association before that date.

U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman will attempt to issue a ruling no later than Sept. 4, one day before NFL teams are required to cut their rosters to 53 players, per Nathaniel Vinton of the Daily News.

Trump has never been shy about offering an opinion on any topic. It's clear if he had his way, Brady would suit up for the Patriots when they kick off the 2015 season on Sept. 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
