Philippines to extend passport validity for free

“The Department of Foreign Affairs offers to applicants for passport renewals in the Philippines and abroad the extension of the validity of their passports (for 1 to 2 years) free of charge (gratis),” the DFA said in a news release Wednesday.

“Extensions shall be processed and released within the same day. Passport extensions for all shall be available only until the end of this year,” the agency added.

Go to any DFA branch and they will extend your passport up to 2 years. You have until the end of the year to receive your extension. If you have to extend then you will have an added bonus and that is you will have the "new" passport that is more durable and has the latest technology, the "chip" when you renew in 2016. Of course if DFA has gotten their "stuff" together.

It boggles my mind to think that every time the Phil government tries and improve something it gets worse. Here they are trying to move a printing facility to a new location AND start a new passport production. Who dreams this stuff up. What will they screw up next.

Thank you for the info Greenbaum I hope I can do extension for renewing my passport (It will be expired this last week of December 2015) if it's much faster processing than changing my surname on my married name because I'm planning to take a Christmas vacation in the Philippines this December. I'm just not sure though which is better due to the delays in processing...

In your case your better off getting an extension so you can take advantage of the new passport. You can still travel on your maiden name, just be sure to carry your MC, BC and ticket your flight in your maiden name as it appears in your passport. No problems.

Try and avoid this mess if at all possible. Head over to your nearest Consulate and get the extension.

Do you know if my wife has not yet entered the US on her CR1 visa in a Phil PP that expires in Nov 2015, and she goes to dfa to do this extension will they keep / cancel her current one voiding the entered CR1 visa or somehow just change the shown expiry year?

If you answer this one correctly, the first Red Horse is on me!

They will endorse the passport on the spot avoiding the canceling and reissuing a new passport. Remember, they can't make passports and that is the reason for the endorsement with extension. Silly rabbit. Now where is my Red Horse!

Wow ! I would want to go but be back in Pinas this December though. Have fun guys and be safe I've been to Coron Palawan and did Island hopping two years ago and it was so much fun. Be back there again but this time with my asawa too
