hello guys.. how are you? i would like to ask a question.

i've been in US for more than 8 months. i'm planning to visit in the philippines again maybe January next year.. but someone told me that if i want to apply for citizenship, i need to stay inside US for at least 3 years. if i will go back to the Philippines, i need to start counting years again to apply for Citizenship. is that true?

my husband read that if we will go to the philippines i need to let the USCIS to know about that travel and need to pay $450 for them to allow me to travel. but it is also possible that they will allow me and tell me that i abandoned my greencard application when i return. so i need to start counting yrs either way.

i dont know what to do, i just wanna see my mom.

Please don't just listen to people, unless you intent to stay more than 6 months in the Philippines then you are good with naturalization clock. Travel with I-131 Advance Parole when you have it. Good luck.

Do you have a conditional green card ? Cos uscis website says that you don't need a re entry permit unless you are planning to stay there for more than 12 months.

As the OP stated, they are currently waiting for their EAD/AP, and they plan on only traveling for a week. They can travel and return once that is received so no re entry permit is needed.

Good Luck!

There is no such $450 'thing'.

To receive your green card in hand can take 12-14 months currently but you get AP in about 3 months from filing and you can travel with it,

it's the EAD/AP combo card.

What is this $450 "thing" you speak of? I think your husband read some info that was either a) incorrect b) unrelated to your situation. The only fee is the $1070 you paid when you applied for AOS. As long as you have an EAD/AP card or green card, you're good to go.

oh no.. i got it.. he saw the payment if i would apply for advanced parole. but i told him that it's not the payment to go outside US.

my question is, im here in US for one year and if i will go visit Philippines and return here, do i need to count another 3 years to apply citizenship and they will disregard my one year stay here. or i can continue counting my first year and stay here for another 2 years to apply citizenship?
