Passport Ammendment or Renewal

4 posts in this topic

I changed my given name after marriage because it is legal here in Minnesota. Now my passport still shows my old given name. Will Philippines recognize the change name I did after marriage here in Minnesota? How do I renew my passport or should I have it amended first? Thank you all for your answers.

What I did before after a name change (annulment of marriage) was I renewed my passport even if it was not expiring yet. You can process renewal with the change in Name. Bring an original copy of your marriage certificate to any Philippine Embassy, you new ID with the name changes and process the renewal. I am not sure with amendments of passports, never heard of it being done here in the Philippines.

If you find the need to travel on your current passport all you need is your marriage certificate to show your married name if asked for. You can still travel on your current passport till it expires as there is no pressing need to change it. If it were me I would wait till all the "dust settles" with DFA and the software problem and the GIANT backlog of issuing passports.

To change your name you will have to go through the Philippine Consulate that handles your area and that would be Chicago; http://www.philippineschicago.org/index.php?page=consular-services-chicago/faq-chicago/#changename

You will need to do a ROM (Report of Marriage); http://www.philippineschicago.org/index.php?page=consular-services-chicago/faq-chicago/#marriage

Greenbaum is correct. My wife changed her name on everything but her passport and she had no problem going to and coming back from the Philippines. She just carried her green card, DL, and marriage license on her.
