Hepatitis B concerns

The medical exam has resulted in some concern about hepatitis B. I don't understand the details but the medical office wants to perform more tests (I assume a liver biopsy) and is refusing to release the exam results in the meantime.

Does the medical office have a right to do this? I understand that hepatitis B is not on the Cdc List of communicable diseases of public health significance, but it is required in the vaccinations. I find this confusing, but anyway I feel this is an issue for the consulate to deal with as they see fit.

If the consulate is not satisfied with her medical exam results as they currently are, and they require her to have more tests, then so be it. But I would rather not subject her to such an invasive and risky procedure as a liver biopsy unless I'm sure it is absolutely necessary.

How should I proceed here? Consulate is hcmc vietnam.

Did they tell her she has Hep B? Did they tell her they would do a liver biopsy? Seems premature for that. I would think first they want to see LFTs and maybe an ultrasound of the liver. The blood test would reveal if it is acute vs chronic. Those with acute Hep B usually feel ill.

Hep B has a acute stage ( this would be a public health concern) and a chronic stage. Unfortunately Hep B is very common in Asian countries. Many get it from their mother as it is passed from mother to child. Can be prevented if the baby gets HBIG and Hep B vaccine very soon after birth. Sorry, I am getting off topic a bit.

If you need info on hep b,, there is an excellent site http://www.hbvadvocate.org

and if she does have Hep B you should get your Hep B vaccines if you are not immune.

Good luck!

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks for the helpful information. I wish I could know more details of what is going on. Apparently they are not telling her much. I gather that we have no choice in the matter but if I find out they want to do a biopsy or put her on antiviral medication I may try to contact the consulate.

If she happens to had Hep B, they cannot just put her on antiviral medication if the viral loads is small.
