Where in the US are you flying to?

Try www.norwegen.com, and jetairfly

You will have to put your flight together, as is not a direct flight, but they both take animals on board.

I'm flying to Newark since that's the place i'll stay at first =)

Back in the days when I traveled a lot I used - norweigan.com , skyscanner.com, momondo.com , Priceline.com , what I typically did was to open all these pages set the search engine for the same results and then compare them to see where the best flight+price was. And another trick is to book in the middle of the week, prices typically go down on tuesday and back up Wednesday evening. And one more tip, if you search a lot on the same page ex, sky scanner.com "they" will recognize that and the price will go up. Just some smart tips :)

Ya thats right. I alredy asked at the last flight, just to get information and I flew over with them to Newark.

I'd like to take a Lufthansa flight ..but they are sooo expensive during the summer vacation season -.-

Try what happens if you book the ticket not directly from Lufthansa, but from some flight searching engines. While picking the right day/price you will see what kind of company operates your flight. I purposely chose Lufthansa though I booked the ticket through CheapOair this time. I think $732 is quite good deal at this time of a season with Lufthansa :)

A german friend once told me that she traveled to and from the U.S. using a search engine called hipmunk. I've used it too, seems like they find some of the cheapest airfare. Not sure on the various airline's in-cabin guidelines for pets though....

Kayak.com is good. Tues and Weds flights tend to be the cheapest. Also flying with someone like Iceland air or via Istanbul with Turkish airlines can save a lot of money if you don't mind a longer flight.

Skyskanner & Kayak are my favorites.

Skyscanner has a great customer service in case you experience any problem with a company found through them.

Just used www.cheapoair.com (do not let the name throw you off, great service and prices) for flight from Philippines. Was less than 900.00 US dollars. Nearest price was over 400. more.

It it just my experience, but there are many to pick from.

Good luck, and safe traveling!

You can call the airline's toll free number and cancel your return flight a week or so before the date. I would just tell them your plans have changed and you're not sure yet when you will be flying back to Germany.

We usually search for flights on Kayak. We will also check directly with the airlines in case they have some better deals.

September seems to be when the high season for US-DE (or all of Europe) flights ends. You can also check prices after Labor Day (first weekend in September) if that's outside your current search range.

Sometimes round trip tickets are cheaper than one-way tickets. You can cancel the return ticket after flying the first leg. (I'm sure others have done this and can give more information; we moved internationally on frequent flyer miles as did a previous poster.)

For pets, each airline has different fees and requirements. Be sure to book the cat early, as there are restrictions on the number of pets in cabin.

The US has requirements for importing cats here (CDC's page, seems to have the most information), and New Jersey has its own regulations here (PDF; you can also google the state's Department of Agriculture).

We brought our cat in cabin from the US to Germany on Lufthansa. We read many reviews about transporting pets, and posters had good things to say about that airline. The Lufthansa people let us board early so we could get the cat settled, which I thought was very nice. We paid a bit extra for a nonstop flight and put her next to the window so the trip would be easier on her. She slept for much of the flight. We thought this was good, as she hates to leave her home.

(Added: If your cat has a microchip, the US vets and shelters will not be able to read it, as they use a different system. They're not required in the US, but FYI.)

great this really helped me out a lot !! thank u ! but one question after Lufthansa requires 55 x 40 x 23 as carriage box ..but I just find 55 x 40 x 35 which I already have is this a issue ? just have to find a solution for the water she possibly needs in the plane, did you book a own seat for the cat or has she been under your legs ?
