Hi all,

Just wanted to get some advice.

My fiance and I are so sad to hear the news that she has to go through the sputum test. She had a procedure done when she was younger, which left a scar in her lungs. On day 2 of her medical at St. Luke's, they informed her that she needs a sputum test and that it will take two weeks. We thought everything was good after day one because they told her to come back for releasing the next day.

My fiance is feeling so discouraged.

She has always been negative for her past sputum tests, but she's worried about her results this time. She's healthy, but often gets a cold. Currently, she has a cold and is coughing.. After a few sleepless nights and stress. Her first sputum test in schedule in 4 days and she is worried.

Can someone here who has had to get a sputum test share their experience with us? I know the early and late signs of tb, but has anyone here ended up with a positive sputum test but lacked early signs and symptoms?

Thank you all in advance!

My wife had a sputum test as she stated her past siblings and grandparents had TB. They also did her release papers and after 2 weeks her tests were negative and she got her visa. My wife also had past scarring on her lungs and in fact, went to St. Lukes while sick with a cold. No worries. She'll be fine.

It's hard to tell someone who is facing this obstacle to relax but that is what I will say. There is nothing that she can do but following the procedure and the outcome is what it is. A cold will not have any baring on the sputum test. It's better to find out that she is ok, then for her to have missed it and die from TB. Neither of you want that I know.

So go, be positive and with the love between you, you guys will get through this. There have been many before you and they made it through the TB processing and eventual ended in the arms of their loved one ready to start a new chapter in their lives.

Gods speed
