Hello everyone,

I am curious, for those of us marrying a French citizen, how do we go about getting the marriage recognized in France? I know a couple years back I read something about needing to have the publication de bans even though the marriage was to be held abroad. Is this still true? Is there a certain time period when this MUST be done? Are they lenient at all? Any help, info...a point in the right direction would be great. :joy:

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

For your marriage to be recognized, if you are already in the US, you need to ask the closest consulate what documents you need to provide.

Usually they ask for an 'acte de naissance' (copie intégrale), the marriage act, proof that you live together, etc.

When I asked the French Consulate in Miami, that's what they asked me to provide. I haven't started the process though, but it must be the same in other consulates.

If you want to do that process in France I don't know how it works. I would ask the city hall for information...

Good luck
