Happy toes, I will have the FBI available but it will be in English and then we would have to translate in. We are in Fez and the info he got said police check, he just told me FBI. I can just say I sent for FBI but not received and if they question, I will pull it out. My arrest are not bad, basically the wrong place at wrong time, it was dismissed but still shows. But since it is a mixed marriage they can be picky. I am sure I will have to explain everything and I pray the adul speaks English as my Darija is not good. lol. Inshallah it all works out.

We were married in Fez! Our Adul did not speak English, but it was still ok. Have everything translated when you get there, just so you don't have to delay if they request the FBI check. IF I remember correctly, the local reports would have sufficed, but, as I said, they do sometimes change their minds... LOL My husband says that if he or I would have had anything on our records, they would have just asked/interrogated us about it and made sure the other party was aware. He says it would not have prevented the marriage. Might have caused a delay, but not prevented it. Hopefully your fiance knows some people on the police force and courts. My hubby had a close family friend in the police and got us through that part in just a few days vs a week or more. His Adul was long known in his family, as well, so he did a lot to move us through the court quickly.

I don't know if Youssef knows anyone, we have never discussed it... but I will ask. I like Fez, but dislike the Turkish potty. I know his brother will be will us, since none of my family is coming with me. My mom is still in shock.

I made sure, with my now husband, that my family and friends interacted with him via Facebook and Skype prior to my visiting the first time and then more before I went to get married. That helped take a lot of the shock away. It is difficult for many people to understand.

My friends are ok with it.. Most of my friends are married to Mexicans who are illegals.. so its no big deal, however my Mom, is just not accepting to it. So I am a big girl panties and can take care of myself. She can just see for herself when he gets here.

LOL - "big girl panties" I understand what you mean! The first time I went to Morocco, before meeting my husband, my mom thought I was coming home in a body-bag! Now she understands a bit more and she loves my husband - so does most everyone I know. I still have one friend that is convinced my hubby is some crazed, abusive a-hole.... but her father was and he was an Arab, so she is convinced all Arab men are like that and nothing will change her mind.

It's just a big culture change for both of us. But his family treated me so kind and friendly when there in April. But it seems most Moroccan women gave me dirty looks when we would go out in public.

They (Morocco) require a background check from the US (if you're a US citizen). Some cities will take a local/state report, others require the FBI background check. They also require one from Morocco, as well. There is an interview with the local police where the marriage takes place, and they go over anything that is on the report(s) with the Moroccan Fiance and the foreigner.

Thanks for explaining this, I learned something !

Absolutely! Morocco likes to make things difficult and they require a lot of, what I think, are strange things for a mixed marriage (as they call it). I had to prove my occupation, income, and residence, as well.

I should note that the marriage doesn't take place at the police station (as my post could read that way), but rather the interview takes place at the police station in the city that the marriage is taking place in.

Interview in Morocco for marriage is with police and then a judge before you get the application for marriage approved

Your local criminal reports are good for these interviews

What I see Is the FBI report showing up when immigration does it background check

It is not that difficult to exsponge a record (if minor offenses) that happened when you were young

worth the initial appointment fee with a lawyer to ask if possible

if you want the procedure that you will go thru in morocco, write to me

Thanks. The immigration process should not be a problem as I work for the Bureau of the Census with the federal government. I was just worried about in Morocco because I read somewhere it must be a clean police record. I think I know everything I need to have to get married but would u just elaborate encase I have missed something.

The documents required vary from city to city. I know you should make an appointment w/ the US Consulate in Casablanca to get 2 documents from them, then you take those to Rabat. You also need to get the Moroccan police record for yourself in Rabat. I remember I brought a birth certificate, paystubs, had to make numerous copies of my passport and entry stamp, a medical exam done in Morocco stating good health and not pregnant (the Adul might have someone that you pay a nominal fee for this), the background check, (I've read some older posts and others were able to just use the local/state check without issue), and I can't remember anything else. Have your fiance get the list of required documents from his Adul, and just do an advanced search on here to see what others have brought. There are some much older posts where something was "sprung" upon the couple.

:)

They didn't surprise us with anything in Fez, so I'm pretty sure you'll be ok. Make sure you have a great pair of walking shoes! LOL There's a lot of running around. Make sure you set up the appointment with the Consulate, as well. They don't take walk-ins. I wish I had that link for you.
